Bhakti Madhava Puri Maharaj gives an extensive discussion concerning the importance of the spiritual master. He points out that we cannot get beyond our present position unless we have help from those who occupy a spiritually superior position. Much can be gained from reading Srila Prabhupada’s books, but when a living spiritual teacher is available, we are enjoined by scripture to take guidance from such a realized soul.
Maharaj discusses the practical problems of finding an authentic spiritual master and gives suggestions for the proper mood for making such a search. He finishes with a discussion of the meaning of self-realization and shares his own experience finding a spiritual master after the disappearance of Srila Prabhupada.
