Today Shanta Maharaj spoke about a few pastimes of Srila Sridhar Maharaj with Srila Saraswati Thakur Prabhupada. When Srila Sridhar Maharaj for the first time interacted with Srila Saraswati Thakur, Srila Saraswati Thakur asked Srila Sridhar Maharaj about his purpose of visiting to the Math. Srila Sridhar Maharaj replied that his purpose of visiting the Math and his only goal of life was “satisfaction of Saraswati Thakur”. After listing to such an answer Srila Saraswati Thakur became very pleased.
Prior to his divine disappearance from this world Srila Saraswati Thakur asked Srila Sridhar Maharaj to sing sri rupa manjari pada Vaisnava kritan. Srila Sridhar Maharaj, following the order of Srila Saraswati Thakur, started singing the kirtan. However, some of Srila Sridhar Maharaj’s godbrothers thought that Srila Sridhar Maharaj was not skilled in singing melodious kirtan and they asked another disciple of Srila Saraswati Thakur, whom they thought to be a very talented kirtan singer, to sing this Vaisnava kirtan. Srila Sridhar Maharaj stopped the kirtan and the other devotee started to sing. Listening to this, Srila Saraswati Thakur became very angry and told that he did not want to hear the melodious song, he wanted to hear the sri rupa manjari pada kirtan sung from the heart of Srila Sridhar Maharaj. From this pastime the assembled devotees could understand that Srila Saraswati Thakur had appointed Srila Sridhar Maharaj as the guardian of Sri Rupanuga Guru Parampara. This became visibly evident from the nature of revelation Srila Sridhar Maharaj gifted to this world.
Shanta Maharaj further explained that Srila Sridhar Maharaj, during his manifested pastimes, appointed Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Maharaj as his successor acharya and Srila Govinda Maharaj personally appointed Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj as his successor acharya. This is the bonafide line of Sri Rupanuga Guruparama. By serving this line with unflinching faith and absolute chastity we can have some hope of entrance into this highest spiritual plane which Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu came to deliver.
