Sripada Bhakti Madhava Puri Maharaja read from Srimad Bhagavatam.

  • Srila Sukadeva Goswami explains how we can realize the Supreme Lord of the Heart (Paramatma) by reason and perception with the help of our intelligence. This is further clarified by His Divine Grace Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada’s purport of this sloka.
  • Sripada Bhakti Madhava Puri Maharaja explains that our religion and philosophy are based on direct experience and not merely on faith alone. Vijnana means realized knowledge in which the subject makes himself the object of his own investigation.
  • Answering a question from a devotee, Sripad Puri Maharaja explains that an element of narcissism, or self-enjoyment, exists minutely within everyone because we are sparks of the energy of the Absolute, Whose nature is to be for Himself. But because Vasudeva is everything, Krnsa’s joy is everyone’s joy. The position of the living entities is that they are dependent servants and Krishna is the independent Lord of everyone.
  • Intelligence is everywhere, even within an atom or a molecule. On a larger scale, even the solar system would eventually fly apart if it were merely guided by Newton’s mechanical laws alone.

Sri Chaitanya Charitamrita Antya 3.55-61

Sripad Bhakti Madhava Puri Maharaja read from Sri Chaitanya Charitamrita.
http://caitanyacaritamrta.com/antya/3/55/en

  • Prior to the reading, Sripad Puri Maharaja answered a question from a devotee who asked: What Is Consciousness? According to our acharyas, consciousness is the symptom of the soul, whose nature is sat-cit-ananda, where cit indicates consciousness or cognition. The soul is part and parcel of the cit potency that originates from Krsna, the fully cognizant Absolute Truth. Initially, the soul begins in the tatastha shakti, or marginal energy of Krsna, the plane of impartial consciousness. But that consciousness can become conditioned due to attachment to the external material energy of the Lord.
  • The Holy Name is non-different from Krsna. Thus the power of the Holy Name is not diminished even when chanted unintentionally. The Holy Name is more powerful than any sinful activity, and thus can purify even the most wicked. But committing sin while chanting or after chanting is like covering oneself with dirt after taking bath. Under the shelter of Gurudeva the Holy Name is chanted to glorify Radha and Krsna. One should not invoke the Holy Name for the fulfillment of any selfish purposes.
  • The Holy Name will act even when uttered improperly or when the syllables are separated by other characters of the alphabet. If one utters the Holy Name even partially or improperly, the Holy Name, which is identical with the Supreme Personality of Godhead, exhibits its spiritual potency because of that person’s offenseless utterance.

What Anartha Does Kamsa Represent?

By

Sripad Bhakti Madhava Puri Maharaja, Ph.D.

Kamsa is kam sa  = with kam. with material attachment. So he represent material attachment, or anartha in general. Also considered bhayanaka, or the fear of material attachment. Kama is also one of the four purusarthas: dharma, artha, kama, moksha, representing material enjoyment, and is distinct from the fifth transcendental pursuit of life, which is Krsna-bhakti or devotion unto Krsna.

Devaki symbolizes devotion, in whose heart Krsna appears. Devaki fears Kamsa, for material attachment will imprison the devotee in its grip and try to kill devotion; it is the antithesis of devotion. Krsna kills Kamsa and thus purifies the devotee of all material attachments.

The six sons of Devaki who Kamsa kills represent kama, krodha, lobha, moha, mada, matsarya, which are the progeny of the materially attached mind. In this sense, the fear of Kamsa, or fear of material attachment, kills lust, anger, greed, illusion, madness, and enviousness that arise in the mind of the aspiring bhakta.

When these anarthas are checked by fear of attachment then Baladeva, the adi Guru, comes to help remove all these anarthas and makes a clean place for Krsna to reside. Thus he expands as the Sesa naga throne, dham, and resting place for Krsna in the heart.

Yogamaya is the personification of prema, the energy that enacts all loving relationships in the spiritual world, bewildering the residents there to relate in ecstatic love with Krsna as an ordinary cowherd boy. How could Kamsa possibly have any contact with Yogamaya? She flies from his hands, and it is Mahamaya, the potency of material delusion, who tells Kamsa that Krsna, the eight son of Devaki, will kill him.

Those who receive the mercy of the Lord and become freed from all anarthas, are carried by Vasudeva across the viraja river that borders the material world, and taken to to the abode of Vrndavana, the plane of spontaneous loving service.
